Ellen Page For Cisco? We Don't Get It

Ellen Page For Cisco? We Don't Get It

Ellen Page As A Cisco Spokesperson?

We understand why you'll be wondering who Ellen is. For those who don't know, she was in the movie Juno, a witty satire involving a young pregnant girl in high school that born a child out of wedlock and her decision to give her child away for adoption. We also saw her in XMen:The Last Stand as Kitty Pryde.
But the thing we want to point out is, Ellen Page appeared in PG type movies meant for young adults and above - not for school children who will be watching Ellen dropping her panties in the opening scene of Juno.
We agree that she shined in Juno and was loveable, witty, and comical in her performance. We saw her light the screen in XMen too. But we are scratching our heads here wondering why Ellen Page was casted as the leading spokesperson for a series of Cisco commercials. To us, it just doesn't fit.

Poor Casting

Let's face it. Cisco is well known in the IT world as a premier supplier of networking equipment. It has, however, an identity problem in US consumer households.
To us here at KoW, we like Ellen Page and her acting. She played a very loveable, funny, and witty part in Juno. But even if you were a fan of hers, you don't know much about her. She's not in the public eye to draw enough attention to the masses. In fact, we'd hesitate to say that she is not very well known at all.
So this is just really poor casting on the advertising agency's part and a big miss by Cisco marketing and advertising. If Cisco wanted someone who was more identifiable and someone who can reach an audience to put a shot in the arm to American households, they should have got someone like Hillary Duff, Alyssa Milano, Miley Cyrus, Kristen Stewart or Dakota Fanning to do the job.
The problem now is that they have committed and are too late. To some people, Ellen Page is a fictional character in Cisco's advertisement. When viewed that way, it is no different than trying to make the audience lock into someone like Flo, the progressive spokesperson.
Sorry Cisco, Ellen Page was not a very good choice. This ad campaign will do very little to connect to US consumers with your home products because it just, well, too disconnected
